[Index] [Catalog] [Archive] [Bottom] [Refresh]

This category is way too damn broad. History is massive all on its own, and "Religion" is so vast it probably needs to be broken up into individual threads.

Christian religion would go over everything from different Bible translations, early splinter groups like the Gnostics, the writings of saints and popes, The Reformation, Old Testament archeology, modern Christian Identity and other revivals, etc. And that's just for the Christians! There's also the Germanic, Nordic, Celtic, Mediteranean and Ancient pagan faiths, and if you're more of a magic practitioner then there's a whole other slew of different approaches such as Folk Magic, Western Ceremonial, Eastern to Modern Energy Work (and then within those approaches are anything from Druidry to Hermeticism to Rosicrucianism to Thelema).

My point is that, while some of us enjoy just scrolling and scrolling and scrolling and scrolling to see if there's anything relevant in a thread, libraries are typically well organized and having such a broad topic is like having the category "The World" in a large library. We already have a dump thread, let's fight against the entropy and keep our library nice and ordered.

I'm not seeing any contributions from you, friend.

Will put some thought into organization and indexing of threads this week, perhaps some ground rules for board as well, like having separate threads for discussion and regular pruning of comments, to help keep books neatly organized
Y'all know where I can get some of that Tombstone book? About CCP genocide. I don't know what the original language of publication is, but I need English because I have a small brain.

Knowing what your looking for is half the battle, unfortunately wasn't able to find a free copy yet.

Tombstone: The Great Chinese Famine, 1958-1962
by Yang Jisheng

Tombstone: The Great Famine

Beginning in the early 1990s, Yang began interviewing people and collecting records of The Great Famine of 1959–1961, in which his own foster father had died, eventually accumulating ten million words of records. He published a two-volume 1,208 page account of the period, in which he meticulously cited his sources to prevent the Chinese government from dismissing it. It was widely acclaimed as being the definitive account of the Great Famine. He begins the book,

I call this book Tombstone. It is a tombstone for my [foster] father who died of hunger in 1959, for the 36 million Chinese who also died of hunger, for the system that caused their death, and perhaps for myself for writing this book.

The book was published in Hong Kong and is banned in mainland China. In 2012 translations into French, German, and English (which has been condensed almost by 50%) have been published.
