How well does the New 3DS handle arcade emulation through the Retroarch FBA cores? Is performance good? Input lag acceptable? Would a Vita provide a better experience for arcade emulation?

I am considering picking one up as the prices decrease.

Not sure if you used Citra before. The Citra emulator is pretty good to be honest, it ran everything I threw at it but getting the correct ROM format is really annoying.

idk about arcade, but I used to play snes on mine and it's ok, not super. the emulator performance on vita sucks, at least it did a year ago. it should be faster in theory, but i don't think the devs ever really cared about it. only snes emu that would run FF6 full speed was 2002 and had awful sound. For handheld gaming these days I mostly play snes rpgs on my bittboy or native games on ips gba. hacked switch or GPD Win 1 will give you the performance you seek, certainly. The RS-97 IPS is pretty cool, if you can stomach the lame case graphic. There's also the RS-97 non-IPS, RG-300 and RS-90 if you

Play instead gameboy, gbc, gamegear, atari lynx, and stuff like that on handheld.
NES and PCE should work okay too, at least my DS Lite had no problems emulating them. But here the problem is the screen is too small, with sprites, text, and games designed for regular size TV.
Otherwise if you really *have* to play SNES on portable system, just build your own with an ARM SBC, screen, battery, enclosure, and other parts you chose yourself. Then at least you can pick hardware and not pay Nintendo or someone else lotsa money and still be stuck with a shitty mess of stuff to work around.

Bittboy (IPS) plays snes fullspeed with considerable frameskip. I'm 10 hours deep into FF6 on mine. RS-97 IPS plays non-chip SNES games fullspeed at ~$70. The RG-300 is a bit more tasteful and might start shipping with IPS (wait for confirmation), which would make it the best ~$70 option. The RG-350 just launched a few days and the GKD-350H is on its way, both of those should be <=$100 and have faster processors than the RS-97. There's also the option of raspberry pi handhelds, but you're either spending ~$100 and a bunch of soldering work or spending ~$300 for a prebuilt.

Check obscurehandhelds.com and dingoonity forums for information on the modern chinese emulation consoles. nice, high effort community but you can't call people faggots

I played New Leaf recently, you can run it and most of the DLC to my understanding, it ran just fine.

I did end up having a psp emulate things okay, the old phat kind. I used that lumines game to hack it. The only psp game I ever bought was that game just to hack it to use the psp the same or similar way that I used a normal PC. I watched entire anime series on the thing back in the day and even browsed 4chan. I used it for music and as a pda basically too. It's snes was fine. It's n64 was awful. A cool thing about he original DS is that it had a dslinux. The PSP only did linux for proof of consept due to it already behaving as a pc well enough. The DS needed an actual opera gba device to even get online. I also remember reading in 2007 about a hack to put the gp2x online. I never owned anything but the original, non-hacked DS, and the hacked PSP that was the phat version. The only consoles I own now are the ps1 tiny thing, the gamecube, the ps2, the original nes, the original snes (talking US here), original gameboys, gamegear, and then just the old laptops and android devices of which are all I use, those last. Most of my games, approx 80, are roms. I don't have very many nice actual physical games due to being a poorfaggot and then NEET my entire life.

It makes me want to go into the past and play a literal windows 98, as my first computer was better than the shit they have now days. Retroarch I tried with lakka on a raspberry pi and discovered how shit it was, modern programming. The zero can't even play snes properly. Everything is bloatware. But what REALLY got me was that no matter your device it only plays bin/cue rather than img/iso. Lakka let me know just how shitty that fucking garbage is. They obviously are spooked and being told not to let the downloadable common versions of the psx roms/isos to be usable. The iso/img are the altered non-detected kind. Fuck retroarch and this current year in general.

I haven't yet found a SNES solution, but it's not a high priority for me since I mostly care about Sega Genesis and older systems. These are what I'm using right now, with good results, and without even needing the OpenGL driver blob loaded. binary packages are from Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, since that's the Armbian build I installed. The others I built myself from source. NES/Famicom: fceux 2.2.2+dfsg0-1build1 Genesis: dgen-sdl-1.33 (./configure --without-cyclone) Amiga: e-uae-0.8.29-WIP4 (./configure --with-sdl --with-sdl-sound --with-sdl-gfx) Atari ST: hatari 1.8.0+dfsg-1 Atari 8-bit: atari800 3.1.0-2 MSX: openmsx 0.12.0-1build1 C16/64/128/etc: vice 2.4.dfsg+2.4.25-2 PCE: mednafen 0.9.38.7+dfsg-1 (I use "mednafen -force_module pce_fast" but not all games will run like this, so OpenGL is needed for the others) ZX Spectrum: fuse 2.9.4-1ubuntu3.1 Amstrad CPC: caprice32-4.2.0 (works generally ok but keyboard code needs a bit of work, but I can probably fix this)
